What’s the Musk up to?
Yes, Elon is at it again. The maker of the Tesla electric vehicle is now the maker of utility scale and home battery systems.
Get ready for this upcoming announcement.
This Thursday at the company's Hawthorne, California facility, Elon will take to the stage to announce a battery – system that is.
We already know they are investing in building out one of the largest battery manufacturing facilities in North America. So what to do with all those batteries?
Actually, they will be announcing two battery strategies and systems. Jeffrey Evanson, head of Tesla investor relations said the company would reveal both a home battery and a "utility scale" battery. In essence — a battery for normal folks and a big battery for businesses.
Of course, we in the electric utility space are already in the know. Investor owned utility Oncor already has Tesla Utility grade batteries in place and operating at their microgrid installation in Texas. You will be reading about this installation in a future issue of Transmission & Distribution World.
