Empire State's Energy Revolution

New York State is out to change the way customers purchase and use electricity.

New York government officials want their state to become a test bed for an energy revolution soon to sweep the nation, giving customers many more options and beginning to address climate change.

Gregg Sayre, a member of the New York State Public Service Commission, outlined the bold bid at The Energy Times Executive Briefing in Washington on March 19.

"The transformation and challenges force New York to question traditional methods and assumptions, Sayre said.

Regulators will be hammering out the new rules governing the electric sector in coming months as part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Reforming the Energy Vision policy initiative.

"REV is a groundbreaking proceeding to fundamentally change New York’s $22 billion electricity market through a top-to-bottom makeover," Sayre said.
