The Changing Relationship Between Utilities and Buildings

An expert from the Engineering Lab at NIST says buildings and utilities are becoming collaborative partners.

Steven Bushby is the Group Leader, Mechanical Systems and Controls at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. He says buildings and homes are no longer just a "load at the end of a wire" but are partnering on things like renewable energy.

Bushby says building managers have expertise in using controls, and those technologies can be applied to coordinating energy generation and consumption in a way that's harmonious with the grid.

Watch the short video interview below in which Energy Times Associate Editor Andy Friedman speaks with Mr. Bushby.
