Get ready to turn on – and be turned on by – intelligent lights.
Sensity Systems, a startup engaged in smart light networks, is teaming up with General Electric, Cisco and others as urban lighting is “morphing from a hardware to a software business,” a G.E. executive told The New York Times.
The newspaper reports that an estimated 50 million aging urban street lights will be replaced worldwide in a few years.
“There are a lot of trials, but no one has yet said, ‘Do my entire city,’ ” said Sensity president Hugh Martin. “Making that work isn’t easy.”
