The Energy Times' inaugural Empowering Customers & Cities summit convened Nov. 4, 2015, in Chicago, the heart of an electric power renaissance. Decision makers from utilities, academia, governments and customers gathered to hear presentations and collaborate around the energy revolution resulting from new technologies, new regulations and environmental concerns.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel opened the event, discussing how mayors and other political leaders can set the stage for the energy revolution and enable transformation of its production, delivery and use. Emanuel told the packed room how Chicago is becoming more livable and sustainable with new private development, additional parkland, and smart grid enactment. "You don't have to sacrifice private development for sustainable policy."
He also told the audience that being the mayor of Chicago is the best job he has ever had.
After the keynote speech by Emanuel, energy leaders, students and sponsors connected at a reception at the Sheraton Chicago.
