Auto manufacturers are planning to tap recycled auto batteries to juice the grid.
Nissan and G.M. said they will use the batteries in their post-vehicular life as energy storage units at businesses.
“This system is ideal for commercial use because a business can derive full functionality from an existing battery while reducing upfront costs through this reuse,” a G.M. executive told The New York Times this week.
The batteries can typically store up to four hours of power, the article said.
Tesla made a splash recently announcing that it is gearing up to produce batteries for business and home use at the massive battery factory it is building in Nevada.
