Mexico Opens Gas Market

Mexico moved to open its gas markets to spur greater efficiency, investment.

Mexico this summer opened up its natural gas markets as part of its ongoing energy marketplace reforms.

It has just published its first monthly natural gas price index.

“The first … report showed that Mexican marketers sold natural gas at an average price of U.S. $4.10 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) in July 2017,” according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

The Mexican government has identified four potential natural gas price hubs.

“Several government agencies are working to make market data more transparent by implementing electronic reporting systems,” EIA said.
